Athens is the capital and the largest city of Greece. Its population is more than three million people and the city is sizable, with many quarters, each of which has its own history and life. The numerous monuments, dispersed within the city, dating from ancient times until today, display its long historical course through time. Besides, it is the city that gave birth to Democracy, as well as the city of the great tragedians, Aeschylus, Euripides and Sophocles.

The choices are innumerable and its beauties are many. It is enough to mention Monasteraki and Plaka, two of the oldest, world-famous neighbourhoods, which fully preserve their traditional colour. But also the Acropolis with the Parthenon, reference points for all visitors. Athens has the advantage of being surrounded by many hills that offer some coolness to the bustling city. Lycabettus, the Philopappou hill, Tourkovounia, mount Aigaleo, are only some of them.

Beyond the center of Athens the suburbs of the city are many and each of them has its own colour. The eastern suburbs are Argyroupole, Vyronas, Kaisariane, Zographou, Agia Paraskeve and others. It’s worth visiting the monastery of Kaisariani. 

The northern suburbs, where as a rule live the wealthier Athenians, are Psychiko, Philothei, Chalandri, Marousi, Kephisia, Vrilessia, Palaia and Nea Penteli. The Olympic Stadium is here and it’s worth visiting the Goulandri Natural History Museum at Kephisia.

Moving on to the northwest we encounter Nea Ionia, Nea Philadelphia, refugee areas with a particular colour. And then to the west there Peristeri, the largest Municipality of Athens, Aigaleo, Liosia, Chaidari, and to the southwest Piraeus, Nikaia, Korydallos, Keratsini and others.
