EASTERN ATTICA

At a distance of a few kilometers from the center of Athens, is eastern Athensa as well some of the most beautiful coastlines of Attica. The area is of great archaeological interest and several sports of the Olympic Games of 2004 took place in its modern facilities. 
We begin with a short tour around the area.

Agia Marina: From here leave the ferry-boats to Nea Styra and Almyropotamos, situated at Euboea.

Schoinias (Schinias)

Schoinias: It is 42km away from Athens and it is one of the busiest places of Attica because of its large beach. You will find many small taverns, bars and facilities for all kinds of water sports.

Marathonas: Next to Schoinias there is this historic area of Attica. The homonymous historical battle took place in 490BC between the Athenians and the Persians. So you will see the archaeological sight, the archaeological museum with important finds from the area, the ruins of a temple at Ramnounda, the church of Agion Saranta and the Dam of the lake, which provides water to the capital. In the area you will find many hotels and campings.

Nea Makri

Agios Andreas - Zoumberi: Coastal areas full of pine-trees that are extremely busy in the summer months. You will find many taverns by the sea and numerous hotels and rooms to let. At Agios Andreas there are children’s camps.

Loutsa: A holiday location of the Athenians with a busy beach and many options for entertainment.

Mati: An area full of pine-trees and with many beautiful beaches. You will find numerous rooms to let and hotels.

The lake of Marathon

Raphena: It is the second most busy port of Attica and many ships leave here for the islands of Greece. In the summer the area is full of life and you will find many taverns, restaurants, bars and numerous rooms to let, hotels and campings.

Vravrona – Porto Raphti: Neighbouring areas, the former of which presents archaeological interest, since here is the archaeological sight and the ruins of the temple of Vravronia Artemis. You can also visit the local museum. Porto Raphti is a holiday location with many beaches and all kinds of alternatives for every age and taste.

Ramnounda

Lavrio: Small industrial town with a contemporary port, which has undertake a part of the traffic of the passenger boats from Piraeus, especially during the summer. Its characteristic feature are the many abandoned neoclassic buildings, the tenement houses and the large Serpieri Square with many taverns and grill houses. In the area you will see the ancient mines, the ancient Theater of Thoriko and the Mineralogical Museum. The Municipality organizes cultural events in the second half of August, which attract lots of people.

Paiania: Behind Hymettos, Paiania, the homeland of Demosthenis is located. In the area you will see the museum of modern art, the Demosteneios Library and the Koutouki cave with beautiful stalactites and colourful formations.

Koropi: Beyond Paiania, 24km away from Athens. The area is beautiful with quite a few cottages and country houses.

Timvos

Markopoulo: A town in an area filled with vineyards, which is therefore known for its wine. It is fairly close to Vravrona and there is the possibility of accommodation in some hotels, should you decide it. 

Spata: An area with vineyards, known for the good wine it produces, where the modern airport of Athens, Eleftherios Venizelos, is.

Agioi Apostoloi: It is 47km away from Athens and it has beautiful beaches surrounded by green. The area also presents an archaeological interest since here you will see the Amphiaraeio Sanctum, one of the most important archaeological sights in Athens. You will also find many hotels and rooms to let, especially at the beach of Kalamos.

Oropos: Holiday location of Athens with many taverns, bars and various recreation facilities. From Skala Oropou leave the ships to Euboea. You will find hotels and rooms to let and you will swim at the beach of the settlement.
