It’s somewhat difficult to mention the events that take place in Athens, since every day all year long it is certain that something will be on. The choices are innumerable and for all tastes and you will only have to take your pick. And, believe it, it’s quite hard…
The Municipality of Athens organizes events both at its own premises but also at open spaces in the city (squares,
pedestrian streets, parks).
The festivities of Christmas, of the Carnival, of the International Day of Music, which last for more than a week, are an institution in Athens. Wherever you may be during that time, it is certain that you will come across something of interest.
Since 2003 Athens municipality organizes the Music
Festival. It begins in June 21st and lasts four days. All the streets and the squares of the city are filled with musicians from all over the world and the whole capital dances endlessly.
The Athens Festival is one of the main cultural events in the city. It started in 1995 at the conservatory of Herod the Attic and it includes symphony concerts, operas and events regarding the history, mythology and literature of Greece. It takes place every July and lasts for at least 3 weeks.
The Music Palace of Athens is founded in 1991. It has very good acoustics and it holds numerous cultural events.
One of the most popular festivals in Athens is the Festival of the Municipality of
Vyronas, with events as music concerts, theatrical performances etc. The festival takes place at the Vrachon Theater, in two outdoor theaters with a wonderful view, and starts in June and ends at the beginning of September.
Equally popular is the festival of the Municipality of
Petroupoli, which takes place at the Petras Theater where the visitor enjoys a view over the whole of Athens. It starts in July and ends in the first days of October.
In the area of Attica also takes place with great success the music
Rockwave Festival with rock stars from Greece and abroad, the Jazz Festival and many others...
In Piraeus, it’s worth attending the events of the Naval Week, which include water sports and concerts.
