NORTH ATTICA
Varymbobi:
A beautiful place at the foot of Parnetha. Situated in an area full of trees, is suitable for daily excursions away from the noise of Athens, as it is only 19km away from it. You will find a few hotels, but several places where you can have a great meal.
Parnetha:
The highest mountain of Attica with an altitude of 1.400m. Parnetha is the most significant green area of Athens basin. It is ideal for excursions, hiking, picnics, bicycling in a properly designed velodrome, as well as for numerous recreation activities in the nature.
Flampouri and Mpafi are two suitably organized shelters that offer host, coffee, food and accommodation, especially during the winter. At its top there is the
Mont Parnes casino for the funs of this kind of entertainment, where you may visit with a telpher. There are also winter skiing facilities.
At its foot you will find many taverns as well as hotels and campings at
Kiourka.
Phyli:
A village at the foot of Parnetha in wild scenery. It’s worth visiting the
Fort with well-preserved walls. Moreover, you may visit the
Kleiston Monastery, a women’s convent which you can reach through an about two-hour path.
Penteli:
The second highest mountain of Attica, where it’s worth visiting the
mansion of Doukisses Plakentias with gothic architecture, which today functions as a cultural facility, the
monastery of Penteli, a monastery from the time of the Turkish occupation, and the cave of the bandit
Javelis.
